"Build your life as if it was a work of art. "
–Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel

The visual and performing arts are an integral part of Heschel's curriculum. Starting in transitional kindergarten and continuing through the 8th grade, students are involved in a wide range of classes in the visual and performing arts that interweave skill development, creative thinking, and understanding of the historical and cultural context of the arts. The arts are also incorporated into the Judaic Studies program and are used to make traditions and holidays come alive in creative and multidimensional ways throughout the grades.

Upwards of 50 middle school students take part in our dynamic musical theater program as actors, choreographers, costume designers, lighting crew, prop crew, and production staff. The video below shows students preparing for their onstage roles as well as creating the scenery in our set design class.

*In the 2020-2021 school year, we hope to stage a full musical in the second half of the year. In the meantime, students will have the opportunity to take part in on-campus, online Exploratories where they can hone a myriad of theater skills.
