Arts
"Build your life as if it was a work of art. "
–Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel
The visual and performing arts are an integral part of Heschel's curriculum. Starting in transitional kindergarten and continuing through the 8th grade, students are involved in a wide range of classes in the visual and performing arts that interweave skill development, creative thinking, and understanding of the historical and cultural context of the arts. The arts are also incorporated into the Judaic Studies program and are used to make traditions and holidays come alive in creative and multidimensional ways throughout the grades.
Heschel’s dynamic musical theater program fosters a love of the performing arts as middle school students gain confidence in a collaborative, student-centered environment. Students develop as actors, dancers, and singers through rehearsals and performances, bringing joy to our community in our annual musicals. Heschel’s musical theatre program is made uniquely magical by the work behind the scenes; Heschel students design sets, create costumes, and operate sound and lighting equipment.
