Community Service > Individual Projects
Each Heschel middle school student is required to perform individual community service projects beyond school-sponsored activities, at hospitals, libraries, parks, pet shelters, food banks, synagogues, and other non-profit organizations. Performing such service develops empathy, respect, initiative, responsibility, and interests that go beyond one’s self. The most successful projects are those in which students, and often their entire families, work directly with people in need or for causes that promote tikkun olam (repairing the world) under the supervision of a recognized non-profit organization that targets an underserved population.
