Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School is dedicated to providing an integrated secular and Judaic program which develops competent, self-directed and resourceful learners. We consider the whole child and seek to engender a strong sense of self and a life-long commitment to learning and to Judaism. Recognizing that each child is unique, instruction is designed to accommodate the individual differences of learners. Research indicates that the process of learning is as important as the product. Therefore, we provide an individualized, experiential program that emphasizes the development of thinking, problem solving and creative self-expression which reaches far beyond the rote mastery of basic skills.

Every member of the Heschel family is essential to the life of our school. Students, staff, parents, and alumni generate the warmth and excitement that define Heschel. In classrooms from transitional kindergarten through 8th grade, our teachers skillfully nurture the natural curiosity of children, turning it into a lifelong love of learning. Staff and families share meaningful moments of their lives and build bridges to the broader community.

Heschel Day School is a community day school, independent of any institution, which develops awareness, understanding and respect for the many divergent modes of Jewish belief and practice. One of the highest ideals of our school is educating children to understand and respect the diversity that exists in observing the Jewish religion in our community and in Israel. Students study the philosophy and practices of the various traditions within Judaism. We cultivate an understanding and respect for other peoples and their cultures while embracing our own unique heritage.
